NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

I've loved The Judds from the beginning. Wynonna was everything I wanted to be in my 30s. The sad passing of Naomi in the throws of her mental health struggles was heartbreaking. And admittedly, I have not followed the country music genre for the past 15 years or so. With that being said, what I saw Thursday night was not at all what I expected. Martina McBride's performance left me cringing and heartsick for her. She was pitchy. Flat. Struggling to remember the words. And in my opinion, she lip synced two of the songs. Reading reviews of her shows over the past decade revealed this is nothing new. How very sad for her to continue to perform in light of the obvious deterioration of her voice and performing skills. Conversely, Wynonna's singing was spot on! She still has the chops. Still gives a lyrically perfect performance. The final song "Love Can Build a Bridge", which featured Naomi on the jumbo screens appearing to be singing the duet with Wynonna, brought me to tears. But she appeared wooden on stage. Moving slowly. Turning her whole torso instead of her head or neck. Reminiscent of someone with back/head/neck pain. Or maybe as a result of the vertigo she has suffered in the past? Concerning. And finally, was not expecting Tanya Tucker to act more as a back-up singer to Wynonna instead of having her own solo piece of the show. Would have been better for Tanya Tucker to be the opening act and Martina McBride acting as backup singer. Would have saved Martina's dignity and spotlighted the fact that Tanya's still got it! Glad I saw the show. But not what I expected.

WYNONNA’S POWERFUL VOICE

After 40 years in the industry, she’s still got an amazing and powerful voice. My husband went to this concert with me - his first country music concert - not really knowing anything about the Judds or Wynonna. We both really enjoyed the show and the music; and Wynonna‘s talent is off the charts! We are very glad to have had the experience. It wouldn’t be an honest review if I did not mention Wynonna‘s stage presence. I had seen Wynonna with the Judds back in the 80s when they were first coming on the scene and she was new at performing. And I have seen her over the decades on awards shows and videos. I was not prepared for her to appear so statue-like throughout most of the performance. She came out onto the stage, and was extremely stiff, and I don’t know if she has an injury, but I never saw her move, her head or her neck. I pray that she’s OK health-wise and I don’t want to say anything insensitive, if she is not. My husband mentioned that even her legs were stiff and didn’t really bend when she walked. It just seemed so odd to me, and I thought she would warm up as the show moved on, but it never really seemed to change. It was just really unexpected. It was as if her voice - which is so powerful - didn’t belong with her body, which was so Cemented in place. Altogether, I enjoyed the show, and I would buy tickets again. I wish her every blessing and good fortune for many more years to come. I love her music! She deserves success and peace: mentally, emotionally and physically.
